About bluQube Ocean Racing

With over seven years of successful sailing sponsorship to our name, we've been involved in some of the most challenging ocean races, and supported some of the most exciting sailors in achieving their goals.

For us, sailing sponsorship brings together the most exciting elements of sailing and business; dynamism, determination, a hi-tech approach, and excitement. But most of all, it's fun!

It all started in 2004 with our sponsorship of the Global Challenge, founded by round-the-world yachtsman Chay Blyth, and billed as "the toughest yacht race", circumnavigating the world against the prevailing winds.

In 2007 bluQube Ocean Racing sponsored Steve White in his bid to complete the 2008 Vendee Globe, which he did (and then some!), achieving a remarkable 8th place.

More recently bluQube sponsored Katie Miller, one of the UK's most talented young sailors in a two-year deal. After winning the bluQube Solo 1000 in 2008, a year later she successfully completed the OSTAR (Original Single-handed Trans-Atlantic Race) at the tender age of 21.

Our current sponsorship of the Global Ocean Race is a hugely exciting opportunity to be involved with a new breed of race, opening up competitive amateur sailing to all, and we are delighted to be part of it.

About the Global Ocean Race

The Global Ocean Race takes in some of the roughest waters on the planet, covering some 30,000 nautical miles.

Race Director Josh Hall devised the race to give adventurous sailors looking for a challenge the opportunity to sail around the world, but without the huge costs involved in running a 60 foot race campaign. And so the concept of an around the world race that was more achievable and affordable was born.

All the yachts taking part are Class 40s, affordable monohulls using modern design technology to limit the cost of an offshore racing class of yacht, with strict controls on materials used to prevent costs spiralling.

This year's event is expected to have a fleet of up to 15 yachts competing, starting in Palma, Mallorca on 25th September 2011, with stop overs in Cape Town (South Africa), Wellington (New Zealand), Punta del Este (Uruguay), Charleston (North America), before finishing the race in June 2012 in Les Sables d'Olonne.

About Phesheya Racing

During the race we'll be keeping a special eye on race competitors Nick Leggatt and Phillippa Hutton-Squire, skippers of Phesheya Racing, with regular blog updates to get an insider’s view of the race.

The South African skippers have an impressive sailing pedigree. Nick has circumnavigated the world twice in the Round the World and Orxy Quest Round the World Race, setting records in the process. He has raced extensively aboard a variety of boats, including multihulls.

Phillippa Hutton-Squire started out as a chef, working in Michelin starred restaurants, before moving to work on private and charter yachts. Phillippa started competitive dinghy racing in Cape Town, and has subsequently worked on private and charter yachts, and raced on the South coast of England. She teamed up with Nick in 2009, taking part in a variety of double-handed events.
